I am so excited to be a part of the Thinking Out of the Box Teaching Conference this summer. I applaud President Obama’s statement supporting marriage equality. I quote from my book The Heart of the Wedding:
“
I believe the day will come when bigotry will disappear and a new generation of Americans will join Canada, Mexico, and most of Europe in recognizing the right of all citizens to have legal protection in long-term relationships. As more couples come forward to announce their commitment to each other, as our neighbors and co-workers no longer feel compelled to remain discreetly silent, and as our leaders on all levels of community speak out, the truth of our human commonality will supplant the fear of our differences. As each of us gets to attend the wedding of a gay or lesbian friend or relative, the network of support and acceptance will broaden. It all begins with two souls willing to say “I do.”

A great conference today in a spectacular setting overlooking the skyline of Manhattan. Thanks to all the speakers and organizers, Kim, Bettina, Val, Bernadette, Jerry, Charlotte, Cindy, Jessie and Sarah but, also, the energy of the graduates who really are making history, for marriage equality, but also for ability of everyone to have a ceremony that reflects who they are and says what is in their hearts.

I found this old video from the Whole Theater production of Dancing With Miracles, words and lyrics by Gerald Fierst, music by Ken Guilmartin.
Gerald did an amazing job capturing the heart of our story. His passion to understand how our story began really showed his dedication to his work. After our wedding ceremony our guest were in tears from his words. We are very pleased we have chosen him as our wedding officiant for our special day.
